千年の森で思いを語る林社長カラマツの絨毯の上を走る

横田隊長はよく言います。「これからの企業は、よく働くお父さんを支えるお母さんの気持ちが重要になる。お母さんは近所付き合いから子育て、ゴミ出しまで、家庭を守ってくれる。企業も地域貢献や次世代へのサポート、リサイクル問題など、この部分がきっちりできてこそ本物の企業と言えるんじゃないかな。」

欧米では社会貢献や地域還元などは企業の常識。また一般レベルでも、あるフランスの裕福なご夫人が、ボランティアで身寄りのない老人の話相手になっているという話を聞いたことがあります。今、人、企業にとって、そんな思いやり、母心が重要になっています。

北海道、十勝毎日新聞社。1919年の創業以来、十勝No.1メディアとして、新聞以外にもＣＡＴＶ、ＦＭラジオを展開し、情報、文化両面から地域の活性化をサポート。原則署名記事制を日本で初めて導入した先進性溢れる企業です。

新聞社は、たくさんの紙を使用します。十勝毎日新聞社では年間約3,000トンもの紙を使用するそうです。これを原料となる木に換算すると、約14ha分の森林を消失させることになります。

最近では新聞などで取り上げられる環境問題。その新聞社がこのままの状態では矛盾が生じると、育林業を展開しはじめたのです。「十勝・千年の森」と名づけられた森は、約200haの敷地（総合400ha）で50haが在来の広葉樹林、80haがカラマツの人工林、そして70haの牧草地とヤギ飼育場、畑があります。当日、管理責任者の方にお話をうかがおうと思ったのですが、社長の林さん自らが応対してくれました。これには正直驚きました。

林社長はこう言います。「カーボンオフセットをご存じですか。経済活動で放出した炭素を、なんらかの方法で吸収し、地球温暖化を食い止めようとする考え方です。これを当社に当てはめ、森林の造成に取り掛かりました。」と。十勝毎日新聞社では、新聞用紙として伐採される木を樹齢60年とし、相殺できる大きさ（60年×14ha＝840ha）の森を作ろうと決めました。そしてこの十勝・千年の森が生まれたのです。

美しいけれどカラマツは外来種。間伐していきますクマザサを刈り、間伐したら幻想的な風景が

森を案内していただきました。広々とした牧草地、橙に色づくカラマツ、湿地、沢、そして植林されたミズナラ、ヤチダモ。人間の思いやりが感じられる自然が、そこにはありました。

「森に手を入れていくといろいろなことがわかりました。御影石や、水や空気を浄化する麦飯石、稀少な動物、植物など。また原生林も見つかりまして。驚きもあり、心が休まるところになりました。」と林社長はいいます。また「私の代になんとか1,000haまで森ができる土地を増やしておきたいと思っています。」この一言にスケールの大きさと、ビジョンの明確さが伝わってきました。

十勝には、試される大地を包み込む、そんな母心がありました。

The 1000 years woods for Tokachi

This newspaper publishing company is supporting activation of an area from both sides of information and culture as the greatest media of Tokachi since foundation in 1919. It is the advanced company which introduced the principle signed article system for the first time in Japan.

A newspaper publishing company uses much paper. In the Tokachi Mainichi Newspapers, about 3,000t paper per year is used. If this number is converted into the tree used as materials, the forest for about 14 ha is deserved.

Recently, an environmental problem is taken up in a newspaper etc. The newspaper publishing company began to develop the enterprise which raises woods. The site of about 200 ha(comprehensive 400ha), the ordinary broadleaf tree wood of 50ha, the artificial plantation of pines of 80ha, and the pasture of 70ha and a goat breeding farm and a field are located in the woods named "the 1000 years woods for Tokachi." Although we thought that care-and-custody persons would be asked about the talk on the coverage day, the president of this company, Mr. Hayashi, received. We did honest deep emotion at this.

President Hayashi says. "Do you know carbon offset? This is the view which is going to absorb the carbon emitted by the economic activity by a certain method, and is going to stop global warming. This was applied to our company and reclamation of a forest was begun. " In the Tokachi Mainichi Newspapers, the tree cut down as a newspaper paper was assumed to be age-of-a-tree 60 years, and it was decided that the woods of the size (60 year x14ha=840ha) which can offset this would be made. We had the woods shown. The extensive pasture, pines which colors in orange, a swamp... There was the nature as which consideration of man is felt.

"When the hand was put into woods, it turns out that it is various --- the granite, the boiled-mixture-of-rice-and-barley stone which purifies water and air, a rare animal and plant, etc. Moreover, the primeval forest was also found. While there was also surprise, the place which feels at ease came. " " I want to increase the land as for which woods are somehow made to my generation to 1,000ha. " The size of a scale and the precision of a vision have got across to his words.

Such motherly feeling which wraps in the ground tried was in Tokachi.
